July Programs at Little Buffalo State Park

July Programs for Little Buffalo State Park

July 3rd - 5:30pm Photography Walk

All experiences and cameras are welcome to join us on a photography walk. We will be walking along the Creek Trail in the western end of the park to look for wildlife. The creek trail can get a bit muddy after a rain, so boots are recommended. This is a great area to look for warblers and water birds. This is not a children's program, but kids with an interest in photography are welcome! We will practice our photo taking skills and share hints and tips to help you get the most out of your camera. Meet in the parking lot for Pavilions 1 & 2, right off of Swimming Pool Road (the west day use).

July 4th - Meet the Macros - 10-11am - Stop by the stage during this hour to learn about some of the macroinvertebrates in our waterways. Though tiny, these creatures can tell us a lot about the health of our stream. The stage is located in the East Day Use area of the park.

July 4th - 1-3pm Mill Tours – Stop by the mill during special hours for a tour.

July 4th - PA Reptiles & Amphibians - 5pm

Come and learn about some of the incredible reptiles and amphibians that live at Little Buffalo. A program for all ages, we will discuss the differences between reptiles and amphibians, discover some of the common species found in the park, learn some fun facts and bust some myths about these misunderstood animals. This program will be held at the campground pavilion & amphitheater located on Black Hill Road. The amphitheater is located on top of the hill on the opposite side of the lodge and fish pond. Please park in the extra car parking lot at the bottom of the hill. Follow the signs.

July 5th - Attracting Pollinators - 5pm

Come and learn about the importance of pollinators and how you can help attract them to your backyard. We will discuss the importance of native plants, what types of flowers are preferred, and what other plants these animals need in order to survive. This is an adult program but all ages are welcome. Meet at the park office.

July 5th - Bats - 8:40pm

Bring the family for a program on bats! We will have a brief presentation followed by a walk around the East Area (after dark of course!) to look for bats with our bat detector. If you want to join us on our walk, flashlights may be helpful! Bug spray is also recommended. Meet at the stage/pavilion 3 area.

July 6th - Stream Study - 10am

Bring the family and help us do a stream study! We will be catching macroinvertebrates and learning what they can tell us about a stream. Nets are supplied and boots or water shoes are recommended. Afterwards we will let all of our creatures go free. Meet at the small bridge behind the playground in the East Area.

July 13th – Salamander Search – 10am-11:30am

Join us in the East Area of the park for a salamander search! We will be searching along the stream and banks on the Mill Race Trail for all kinds of reptiles and amphibians. We will ID the species found and talk about the importance of monitoring these animals. This program is open to all ages, but please note that some areas of the trail are weedy and snakes and poison are common. Young children must be heavily supervised by a guardian and are not recommended to stray from the trail. We will meet next to the playground to determine where we will conduct our search. Bug spray is recommended, as is long pants and close-toed shoes.

July 14th – Meet the Butterflies – 10am-11am

Join us any time during this hour at the butterfly garden as we highlight some of the beautiful butterflies that call Little Buffalo home and discuss the importance of planting pollinator-friendly plants.
