Sat. July 28th – Birding walk - 9:30 -10:15 am. Meet in the pavilions 1 & 2 parking lot off of Swimming Pool Road. We will be walking along the Little Buffalo Creek Trail looking for birds and other wildlife. Bring sturdy walking shoes. Some binoculars will be provided.
Sun. July 29th – Stream Stomp - 10:30 – 11:30 am. Kids of all ages, come and help us do a Stream Stomp! We will be in the creek catching macroinvertebrates and if we’re lucky, some salamanders! We will collect and identify the animals and learn what they can tell us about the health of a stream. Afterwards, we let them all go. Meet by the stage in the East Area of the park off of Boat Launch Road.
Mon. July 30th –Who’s Been Here? - 4-5 pm. All ages can come and learn to identify animal tracks! We will be making our own tracks as well as learning some identification tips to help us figure out who has been here before us. Come to the park office, this activity will be held in the classroom.
Sat. Aug. 4th – Family Fishing at the Lake – 9-10 am – Anyone, any age can join us and learn to fish. Those 16 years and older must have a valid PA fishing license if they wish to participate. Parents who are simply helping children under 16 years of age do not. All fishing regulations and limits apply. We will be meeting at the East (Main) Boat Launch, located on Boat Launch Road. We will have fishing rods and tackle available to loan.
Sun. Aug. 5th - Nature Hike – 10-11 am – Join the park naturalist for a nature tour around the East (Mill) Area of the park. Meet by the stage near Pavilion 3 and be sure to wear comfortable footwear.
Aug. 6th, 7th, 8th, 15th, and 16th – Kayaking programs. Advanced registration is required. Call the park office for more details or to register.
Tue. Aug. 14th – Birding Walk – 9:30 – 10:15 am – Join us at the park office as we go for a walk along the exercise trail looking for wildlife. We will be walking along a section of our bluebird trail and we will discuss bluebird conservation.
Sat. Aug. 18th – Meet the Salamanders – Stop and meet some of the salamanders that live at Little Buffalo State Park! Learn about these lesser known amphibians and see how many of the species you can identify. Stop by anytime between 10:30 - 11:30 am at the stage in the East (Mill) area of the park.
Sat. Aug. 18th – We’re Talking Trees – 4-5 pm – Stick around after a Mill Tour and learn about the trees of Little Buffalo. We will learn how to identify trees and test our new skill with a short walk through the East Area. Meet at the Mill in the East Area of the park.
