Ickesburg & Saville Township Bicentennial

Sunday, July 22,   Baseball Game on Weibley Field, beside the Ickesburg High School, start time 1:30 pm. - Baseball Youth

    “ Honoring the Ickesburg Sandlot Baseball Players  1948 “

Sunday, July 22 starting at 6 pm.  Traditional Community Gathering with an evening of song to bless the start of the Ickesburg Carnival, and now the Ickesburg Bicentennial week,

    led by Rev. Elaine Moyer, Faith United Church, Ickesburg

    Faith United Church Choir, Zach Nyce, director

    Keepin' It Simple, local band, providing Gospel selections


The Ickesburg Bicentennial Committee suggests bringing chairs to any and all events. Additional parking will be available in adjoining fields, with transportation provided to the grounds!


Tuesday, July 24 starting at 4 pm.  Annual Fire Co. Carnival

           **     TRADITIONAL  50  CENT  NIGHT    **

  Hot Dogs, Sodas 50 Cents * Hot Sausages & Fries 50 cents off 

   Home made Ice Cream, Funnel Cakes, Snow Cones, Seafood

    7pm.   “ TAKE A  TRIP  DOWN  MEMORY LANE “

 Kid's Events -  Sack & 3 Legged Races  plus --- all week

   Toilet & Disc Toss, Cow Wrangling, Darts, Dunk Tank ,

     Paddle Wheel, Dime Pitch and other  olde' carnival games         

 *  Bouncy Inflatables  - slide, obstacle course, jousting all week *

    Ickesburg & Saville Township History Lesson for the Day!            

    8 pm. Katz 22 Band, featuring local musician Zach Nyce, as he brings country, rock, ballads & blues to his home town area.


“Honoring the Past : Ickesburg, Eshcol, Roseburg, Saville, & Erly, Pennsylvania  1755-1955 “,  latest of Linda Martin Gilmore's books on Perry County history will be available on the grounds throughout the week!


Wednesday, July 25  (AVTT) Vietnam Memorial Wall Arrives

    3 pm. The American Veteran's Traveling Tribute to the Vietnam Memorial Wall  will be escorted by Perry County Veterans onto the Ickesburg Fire Company grounds to the  ball fields where it will remain through Sunday, July 29th.

    4 pm. Ickesburg Fire Company & Lions Club Carnival Opens

    7 pm.   Evening of  History Making Contests for all!

Beard and Mustache       Little Miss Pigtail        Seed Spitting

              Pie Baking             Period Clothing for all age groups!

    Ickesburg & Saville Township History Lesson for the day!

    8 pm.  Dave Zentner and The Nashville Music Company -

“traditional “ country music just like the good old boys. Having performed with country's best, they'll bring back memories!


Thursday, July 26th ( AVTT  ) Vietnam Memorial Wall Replica

    8 am. Volunteers will start to assemble the Wall

    1 pm. Wall open for public viewing 24 hours daily

Volunteers will be on hand to assist those wishing to use the computerized system to search for loved ones, family friends, and fellow soldiers whose names appear on the Wall!

    4 pm. Carnival opens featuring Chicken Pot Pie Dinners

    6pm. - 8 pm     ** HONORING  THE  WALL  **

Pennsylvania Department of Military and Veterans Affairs Mobile Veterans Outreach Van will be on site to assist any veterans or their families. Jim Scott will also be representing Perry County Veterans Outreach Service.

Limited food & beverages will be available at the Wall during the week, offered by The Perry Historians, Perry County historical non-profit, specializing in genealogical research.


11th Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry, Company K,  will be encamped at the Wall from Thursday through Sunday. Perry County 1st Sgt. David Dobbs, New Bloomfield, PA , and fellow soldiers with family members, dressed in period attire, will provide “ living history “ demonstrations at their encampment. Living in tents, and cooking over open fires,  in the heat of July, the reenactors  hail from Perry County, State College ( Captain  John Mort ), and Bedford, PA. They will demonstrate marching and drilling for new recruits, and invite children to come and join them. Artifacts and toys of the day will be on display, for children to experience fun without the aid of batteries!


Ickesburg Bicentennial Museum will be open throughout the week, displaying area artifacts, vintage household goods, written histories of the Saville Township area, and Perry County memorabilia. Located on the square of Ickesburg in the Church of God building, which was the original Ickesburg high school.


   Ickesburg & Saville Township History Lesson for the Day!

     8 pm.  Faces 4 Radio singing country, rock, & gospel along with a wild sense of humor thrown in for extra measure!


Friday, July 27   CHICKEN  BBQ  DINNERS  starting  4pm.

     6 pm. - 8 pm.    **   HONORING  THE  WALL  **

Saturday, July 28    “ DAYS GONE BY “   PARADE

   Prizes for marching groups, floats, and vintage vehicles!

 **   If inclement weather, parade will be totally canceled  **

     9 am Parade starts to form on Arndt Road, Ickesburg, PA

    11:30 am. Parade will move through Ickesburg

Parade will commence from Arndt Road north to Ickesburg square, ending on Kerr Alley. Refreshments for participants.

    2 pm. - 5 pm.  DJ  Brandon Fuller, Elliottsburg, PA

 Kids Games, Limbo Contest, Hokie Pokie, Sack & 3 Leg Races


Marty's Flea Circus performing disbelieving stunts throughout the day on the carnival grounds to the delight of all ages!


11th PA Volunteers Infantry, Company K , will be demonstrating musket firing, drilling and marching. Children are welcome to participate with wooden muskets provided by the soldiers.  Those children who complete their training will be issued a certificate!

**  Ickesburg & Saville Township History Lesson of the Day! **

     8 pm. Recreation will take center stage for the final performance at the Ickesburg Fire Company and Lions Club Carnival. Performing since 1976, Recreation was formed to provide entertainment for veterans in the VA Hospitals, USO tours, and hospitals throughout the USA. Bringing a message of hope and cheer to all who hear their musical selections. Not to be missed!



    10 am.     Traditional Church Service  held at the  Wall
